comment:
Apanteles simurae You et Zhou, sp. nov. belongs to the glomeratus-group (Nixon, 1965), and is closely related to the Apanteles malevolus Wilkinson, but differs from the latter in 1) the flagellum is longer than the combination of thorax and abdomen (8.5:7); 2) the ratio of the breadth of the stigma to the length of the 1st abscissa of the radial and to the transverse cubital as 5.3:5 :5; and 3) the first tergite is sculptured on the basal half along each side. The new species differs from Apanteles taprobanae Cameron in that hind coxae are entirely smooth; hind tibial spur with length rather less than one-half of basitarsus (5:13). Furthermore, this species differs from both A. malevolus Wilkinson and A. taprobanae Cameron in that the mesoscutum has a week median longitudinal rugosity, and the prescutellar furrows are wide and deep. A. simurae is a gregarious parasitoid of Simura albovenosa Goeze. The cocoon cluster is 2.3 cm long, 1.2 cm wide, they lie together in a large yellow cottony mass on the rice leaf.
